2nd Annual BLC Spelling Bee: SPELL WARS

SPELL WARS is Brunner Literacy Center’s 2nd Annual Spelling Bee fundraiser, bringing together businesses, organizations, and community members for a fun, high-energy evening of friendly competition. Teams sponsor a speller, cheer them on, and even challenge rival teams to face off adding an exciting, competitive twist to the night. 
More than just a spelling bee, this event raises critical funds to provide no-cost, one-on-one tutoring for adults working to improve Literacy for adults and youth throughout the Galaxy ...ok, Dayton and Montgomery County. Join us for a night of laughter, community spirit, and impact because literacy changes lives. May the words BEE with you!
When: September 17th, 2026, 5:30-8:00 pm

Where: Dayton Metro Library - 215 E Third St, Dayton, OH

Register Now: Businesses and organizations who would like to sponsor a speller, or spellers who want to raise funds or be matched with a sponsor should contact  [email protected].

Do you have an hour a week or more to give? Are you ready to get started? 

Whether you have a professional teaching background or not, there's a place for you at the Brunner Literacy Center. BLC volunteers come from all walks of life - teachers, yes, and also accountants, engineers, homemakers, and more.

Whatever skills you have, there are adult students who want to learn what you can teach. The BLC will prepare you to become a tutor or to help in a number of other ways - administration, event planning, and others. Let us know how you can help, and we'll get you trained.

​Tutors are needed at both BLC locations and for distance learning opportunities including evening and weekend availability. Distance learning may take place in person at public locations such as libraries and coffee shops, or virtually via video or phone calls.

Attending a volunteer orientation is necessary regardless of when, where, and how you would like to volunteer.
