2018 is the inaugural year for the Tour de Gem, Dayton's cycling classic! The Tour de Gem is "an event created to foster a sense of community, history, pride and healthy living through cycling, while establishing an ongoing fundraising vehicle for local charities."
Beginning and ending downtown at 5/3 Plaza (Crawford Plaza), the Tour de Gem has opportunities for everyone to get involved, no matter your physical ability levels.
How can I get involved?
We're glad you asked! There are many ways you can connect with the Tour de Gem. You can:
First, there is a $50 registration fee for each rider, which goes toward making the Tour de Gem possible. This is not a donation to the BLC. Each rider is asked to raise $150, so you are encouraged to ask your friends, family, and neighbors to support you supporting the BLC! You can set a higher goal for yourself if you wish. All donations made to the BLC team or riders will go to the BLC.
You have lots of options for riding for the BLC in the Tour de Gem, but one thing is mandatory for everyone: You MUST wear a helmet! Safety comes first, and if you show up without your helmet, you won't be allowed to ride.
Whatever distance you want to ride, you begin and end at 5/3 Plaza (Crawford Plaza) near the Dayton Dragons stadium. Each course starts at a different time, with the longer courses starting earlier in the day. Start times are listed below with each option, and the Tour de Gem recommends you arrive one hour beforeyour start time. Your choices are:
Century+ (107 miles) - 7:00 a.m.
Metric+ Century (67 miles) - 9:30 a.m.
Half Century (48 miles) - 10:30 a.m.
Half Metric Century (30 miles) - 1:00 p.m.
Fun Rides (3, 6, or 10 miles) - 2:00 p.m.
Food, water, sports drinks, bike repair, and medical attention will be available at rest stops along the course. Music, food trucks, and more drinks will be available at Riverscape MetroPark thanks to the Dayton Reggae Festival taking place from 1:00-8:00!
